Hermiston SD 8 board approves $490,800 bid for Weber Field concession and restroom building

The Hermiston School District 8 board voted to award a construction contract to Nerd Construction Incorporated of Hermiston for a new concession and bathroom building at Weber Field.

"I have a recommendation for the that the board approve the recommendation of award to Nerd Construction Incorporated of Hermiston, Oregon for the Weber Field concession and bathroom building in the amount of 490,800," a district presenter told the board, citing the bid tabulation included in the board packet. The presenter said two contractors submitted bids.

Board materials and the presenter said the work is paid from the district's facilities reserve. The presenter described the project as part of ongoing maintenance prioritized after the 2017 bond did not pass: "...when as at when the 2,017 bond didn't pass, what we heard from voters is that, maintenance is up to the district, and we made the decision to maintain Weber Field and bring it back up to, up to what it should be. Part of that, the concession bathroom building was grossly out of date and, not useful."

A board member moved to accept the bid and another board member seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote; the meeting record indicated "all in favor" with no roll-call tally provided.

What it covers: The contract is for a concession and bathroom building near the Weber Field baseball complex; the presenter said the Hermiston Sports Boosters previously installed a hitting facility adjacent to the site and the new building will provide restroom access for events.

Next steps: District staff will finalize contract documents with Nerd Construction Incorporated and proceed with construction planning.
