Polk County commissioners unanimously approved a change order to expand concrete repair work at a county facility after contractors made relief cuts during the first pour. County staff said the first-phase concrete pour had cured and the relief cuts created a need to match an expanded footprint and address sinking areas and potholes.
Staff told the board the original contract amount for the work was $21,740 and requested a change order to cover the additional square footage required to tie into newly cut joints and patch areas that were sinking under repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Commissioners approved the change order by voice vote; staff noted the work area is coned off and the county will ask the public and haulers to exercise caution while work continues.
Staff said they expect the remaining phases to proceed to the south and that the county yard waste access remains available during construction. The board asked staff to coordinate worker safety and traffic flow while the repairs are under way.
