Commission approves rewiring of assessor's office network closet, $7,320 quote from Meyer Electric

The Cole County Commission on Sept. 23 approved hiring Meyer Electric to rewire the assessor's office and move the network equipment to a maintenance-room network closet, staff said.
County staff explained the assessor's office had been used as a network closet with patch panels, DVRs, switches and battery backups that generate noise and heat. Staff said a network closet had been installed previously in the Carnegie Building's maintenance room and that moving the assessor's runs would require approximately 19 cable runs at a quoted cost of $7,320.
Commissioners discussed whether the county maintenance crew could perform the work, but staff noted Meyer Electric was already under contract with the county and could perform the wiring. A commissioner moved to engage Meyer Electric under the county contract; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Staff said the assessor's office had been affected by continuous noise and heat from the equipment and that relocating the hardware to the maintenance-room network closet would also consolidate infrastructure used for county services.
