Superintendent: new multifunction building to store computers, textbooks and furniture; HVAC issues reported at Wadley; budget hearings set

The Randolph County Schools superintendent told the board on Aug. 7 that a recently discussed building will be used as a multifunction facility to store district technology, consumable textbooks and surplus furniture and to provide workspace for IT staff.
"It should be called more of a warehouse than a storage building," the superintendent said, describing plans to dedicate sections for computer storage and a counter workspace so IT staff members Caitlin and Matthew can repair devices outside their office areas.
The superintendent also reported repeated problems with recently installed HVAC units at Wadley. He said the district has contacted the project engineer, who will consult the manufacturer and the installation contractor to determine the source of the recurring failures. "We've had several of those; they've had to work on those several times for those to be new units that have only been in a couple of years," he said.
On budget scheduling, the superintendent told the board the district must complete two budget-hearing meetings by the 15th of the coming month. He proposed holding the hearings the week before the regular meeting: a first hearing on the ninth and the regular board meeting on the 11th. The superintendent said staff member Bethany has been working on the budget and will submit required materials.
Board members were presented certificates for completing school-board governance-improvement training; the superintendent distributed the certificates during the meeting.
The superintendent asked whether board members had questions after each report; no substantive changes to the proposals were recorded in the transcript.
