Senate adopts wide slate of ceremonial resolutions, confirmations and policy statements

The California State Senate used its Aug. 27 floor session to approve a large bundle of ceremonial resolutions, confirm gubernatorial appointments and adopt several policy statements and resolutions on environmental and social issues.
Major ceremonial items and recognitions adopted on the floor included concurrent and chamber resolutions recognizing First Responders Day (SCR 93), Soju Day (SCR 95), Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (SR 53), Epilepsy Awareness Month (SCR 11) and the 50th anniversary of Southeast Asian American resettlement (SCR 96). Most of those measures were adopted by unanimous or near-unanimous roll calls on the special consent calendar.
The Senate also confirmed three gubernatorial appointments that had been reported out of the Rules Committee: Brett Ladin as Director of Financial Information Systems (Fiscal), multiple reappointments to boards including the Housing Partnership Corporation and California Veterans Board, and Karen Morrison as Director of the Department of Pesticide Regulation.
