Rochester Public Schools board kicks off multi‑month strategic plan process, prioritizes 10 issue areas

The Rochester Public Schools Board of Education on Aug. 12 opened a multi‑month effort to develop a new strategic plan, hearing a district framing of 10 candidate priorities and taking part in a structured, tiered exercise to surface questions and rank which items deserve the deepest study.

Superintendent Kent Pickell introduced Spencer Sherman of the consulting firm Education First, which the district selected to help develop the plan with support from a grant the district received from the Mayo Clinic. "We received a generous grant from Mayo Clinic to facilitate the development of our next strategic plan," Pickell said, describing the firm selection and the community engagement that will follow.

The board spent the bulk of the study session discussing the 10 issues district staff identified after school‑level interviews and central office meetings last year.
