Mendota Heights swears in two new firefighters at council meeting

Mendota Heights on Aug. 20 formally welcomed two full-time firefighters in a swearing-in and helmet-pinning ceremony during the city council meeting.
Fire Chief Dan Johnson introduced the event, calling the swearing-in “a milestone event for a firefighter” and noting the new hires began the recruitment process more than a year earlier. Chief Johnson said the two had completed initial training and certification and would continue training on the job, including in-house fire apparatus operator instruction next spring.
Captain Becky Johnson introduced the new firefighters and their families, thanking them for their dedication. She identified Brandon Rabhan, who was pinned by his wife Emily and attended with children Althea, Griffin and Clara, and introduced Joe (last name not specified), who was accompanied by his wife Kayleen and children Dominic, Gianna, Cosette and a three-week-old, Roman.
As part of the ceremony, the firefighters shifted from the department's black probationary helmets to the department's yellow regular firefighter helmets. Mayor Cheryl presented the helmets. Chief Johnson described continuing career training and the next steps for the new members.
The council meeting continued after the ceremony with other scheduled presentations and recognitions.
