Graphics commission approves multiple sign plans and variances, including large banner at Eastmore High

The Columbus Graphics Commission on a motion approved several graphics plans and related variances at its August 2025 meeting, voting to carry forward prior approvals and allow new, larger signage at multiple sites in the city.

Commission staff opened the meeting by calling case GC25002611729 for 11 East Seventeenth Avenue, a mixed‑use building in the University Impact District. Staff said the application would repeal and replace the existing graphics plan to retain previously approved signs and variances while adding a primary wall sign on the building’s west façade and tenant signage throughout the building. Staff recommended approval and noted the University Area Commission recommended approval 5–0. The commission voted to approve the graphics plan as presented.

The commission then considered an application to install a 56-by-26-foot banner (1,378 square feet) on the east elevation of Eastmore High School and variances to allow indefinite display time (the code default is 30 days) and the enlarged graphic area. Staff told the commission the applicant revised the request from three smaller banners to a single larger banner and said the Mid East Area Commission recommended approval 12–0. Staff recommended approval, and the commission approved the banner and associated variances.
