Opelika council approves contracts, resolutions and purchases in bulk vote; several ordinances and appointments debated

The Opelika City Council approved a package of contracts, equipment purchases and service agreements and adopted multiple resolutions during its Oct. 21 meeting. Council members held separate debate and votes on two zoning ordinance amendments (both failed at second reading) and confirmed three appointments to local boards.
Major procurement and contract awards approved (roll calls recorded during the meeting): city utility procurements for distribution cable and transformers; equipment purchases including a 2025 Toyota handicap van ($96,510.46) and a 2026 Ford Maverick for building inspections ($30,858); and multiple technology and managed-services agreements. The council also approved a series of service contracts and appropriations for local nonprofits and community organizations for the fiscal year.
