Rio Grande City commission approves contract for Sept. 6 Gritho kiosk concert featuring Selena tribute

The Rio Grande City Commission voted Aug. 14 to approve a contract with Koosound Music Inc. to bring a Selena tribute band and full band performance to the city's Gritho at the kiosk event scheduled for Sept. 6, 2025.

The contract was presented during the commission's special meeting and described as prepared and reviewed by the city's legal staff and pending the commission's approval. A staff member said, “this year, we will be introducing some additional live music…a Selena tribute band, that will come with a full band and performance and that'll be the main theme of our event this year.” The commission moved, seconded and approved the item by voice vote; commissioners present said "aye" and the mayor declared the motion carried.

Commissioners and staff did not place additional conditions on the contract during the meeting. The item packet was said to have been reviewed by the city's legal office prior to the vote. No dollar amount for the contract, rider terms, insurance requirements or other contract specifics were discussed on the record during the meeting.
