Board members discussed next steps for finalizing the district strategic plan goals and for the Director of Schools'evaluation process.
Trustees said they want to reduce the number of board-level strategic goals and focus on three priorities to better align the district's work with measurable outcomes; staff reported they will work on a three-goal draft in advance of the retreat and share materials during an October work session so board members can prepare for the November retreat.
The board also reviewed a draft evaluation instrument for the Director of Schools. Members asked that the superintendent-evaluation elements be aligned to the strategic-plan goals and to measurable student-outcome metrics. Doctor Farley said she will provide materials and suggested performance measures tied to the strategic priorities; trustees asked that the evaluation draft and strategic goals be available for review before the retreat.
Board members agreed to reschedule the retreat to a date the majority could attend and to use the October work session for interim updates. Trustees also asked staff to confirm facilitator availability and any outside partners who will help facilitate strategic-plan work.
No formal changes to the evaluation instrument were adopted at the meeting; the board asked staff to circulate the draft evaluation and the narrowed strategic-plan proposal before the October work session and to place the items on the retreat agenda.
