Public arts board hears progress updates on three sculptures

The Whitey Public Arts Advisory Board on Sept. 18, 2025 heard progress updates on three sculpture projects in the city’s public-art program, including a 15,000-pound granite work, a large-scale bronze model, and ongoing work on a figurative head.
Board member Judy reported she spoke with artist Yoshi and said his second sculpture, called Ancestors Voice, is being worked on and described the piece as a 15,000-pound granite boulder. Judy said she expects completion on the boulder by the end of the month and that photos should be available for the board to review next month.
Judy also updated the board on Sunny Behan’s large-scale model for Echoes on the Prairie, a deer sculpture. Judy said the artist has finished the large-scale model and included more than 15 photographs in the project packet. "Once we approve the large scale model, it will go to the foundry to be bronzed," Judy said, adding that the board needs to sign off before the foundry can schedule the work.
Board members discussed timing for the foundry work. "As soon as we say yes, then he'll go to the foundry and get it on their schedule," Judy said. Another board member added, "He's done with it," when asked about the model's completion status; Judy clarified that the modeling is complete but the bronzing step awaits the board's approval.
The board also noted progress on a work by an artist named Seth; Judy said she had last spoken with him in June and would circulate photos if she received them. Board members said they would email materials to review and asked staff to forward any additional images.
Board members also noted the pieces shown on the floor of the meeting space will be mounted on base plinths "as per the original design," Judy said, and that arrangement on the floor is intended to give the board a sense of the final installation.
No formal actions were taken on these items at the meeting; members were asked to review submitted photographs and to be prepared to vote or give formal approval at a future meeting.
