Angola commission approves window, lighting and paint work for 101 W. Maumee; awning material tabled

The Angola Historic Preservation Commission on Aug. 20 approved a certificate of appropriateness for most exterior renovations at 101 West Maumee Street, including replacement of three upper north-side windows, seven sconce lights, and repainting of soffits, trim and entrance posts. The commission tabled a final decision on the proposed composite shiplap awning material so commissioners could review physical samples.

Allison D'Agleau, city staff, presented the staff report and told the commission the project “does comply with applicable ordinances and guidelines outlined in the Angola Historic Preservation guidelines.” She recommended approval, saying the materials and paint colors are “preapproved materials and paint colors in the historic preservation guidelines.” A written request accompanying the application asked for $10,000 from the city’s facade grant program toward an estimated $25,000 total project cost.
