Woodford County gives Fair Association 60 days to accept new lease terms or face termination

The Woodford County Contracts and Leases Committee voted to present new lease terms to the Woodford County Fair Association and give the fair board 60 days to accept; if the board does not agree, the county will move forward with terminating the lease.

Squire Varner, speaking after a committee meeting with fair board leaders, said the meetings "has not been as productive as we'd like," and proposed presenting new terms and a 60-day response window. Varner moved the motion: "I so move that we, present new terms of release to the fair board, give them 60 days to agree. And if, if, they do not agree with it, we move forward in terminating the lease." The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The committee noted that the fair board president, Miss Mary Lou Watkins, and treasurer Melanie Wiley were present for the update. Committee members did not specify the proposed lease changes in the public discussion, nor did they set a firm date for returning the revised lease to the fiscal court. The motion directs staff to present new terms and gives the fair board a 60-day period to respond before the county pursues termination.
