Hennepin County board appoints Jody Wendland as county administrator; two deputy administrators confirmed

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners appointed Jody Wendland as county administrator effective Aug. 1 and confirmed two deputy county administrators — Daniel Rogan and Kareem Murphy — during its July 29 meeting.
The board took action after an internal selection process the board said prioritized continuity of services and leadership readiness. Chair Irene Fernando opened the appointment agenda and moved the item before the full board approved it by voice vote. "You are qualified, you are compassionate, you are ready to lead," Fernando said when presenting the recommendation.
Wendland, who has served at Hennepin County since Feb. 10, 2017, told commissioners she was honored and committed to the role. "This is an organization that cares about our residents," Wendland said. She thanked outgoing County Administrator David Huff for mentorship and pledged to honor his legacy.
The board also confirmed Daniel Rogan to the unclassified position of deputy county administrator effective Aug. 1; Rogan will continue to serve as county treasurer and auditor and director of licensing. Rogan thanked the board and said he looked forward to supporting the new administrator and serving residents. Kareem Murphy was confirmed to the other deputy county administrator position effective Aug. 1; Murphy discussed his long family history of county service and expressed commitment to advancing the county's goals.
Earlier in the meeting, County Administrator David Huff addressed the board in his final meeting after 43 years with Hennepin County. Huff praised the organization, noted the board's forthcoming appointment of Wendland and thanked staff and the board for their support. "There is no greater calling than to serve others and to create a better world. That is the Hennepin Way," Huff said.
All three appointments were approved by voice vote during the July 29 session. The board scheduled a public open house and reception for Huff on Aug. 12.
The personnel actions are part of a larger reorganization the board presented during the meeting that included updates to the county's executive leadership structure.
