The Bettendorf City Council on Tuesday approved multiple ordinances and procedural items and then met in closed session to evaluate the city administrator’s performance at the administrator’s request.
Council member Palczynski moved and the council approved the second reading of an ordinance amending the Bettendorf zoning map to rezone Lot 5, 5680 North Street (Bailey’s First Addition) from rural-residential (RR-2) to single-family residential (R-1). The motion passed unanimously; the council said a third and final reading will be held at a later meeting.
The council also gave unanimous final approval to two traffic-related ordinances. One ordinance amends Bettendorf City Code section 6-1-285 to add a school zone on Hopewell Avenue. Another ordinance, on third and final reading, added a yield sign at the intersection of Aspen Hills Circle and Apple Valley Drive. Both measures were approved by voice/roll call without further discussion.
Council approved the evening’s consent agenda unanimously.
Later in the meeting, Mayor (presiding officer) announced the council would move into executive session pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of City Administrator Decker; the meeting record shows Decker requested the executive session. On the record, Decker said, “I do, your honor,” confirming his request. The council voted unanimously to enter executive session and asked members of the public to leave the chambers while the council conducted the evaluation.
After returning from executive session, Council member Jaeger moved to direct staff to place a resolution adjusting the compensation of the city administrator on the consent agenda for the next council meeting; the motion passed unanimously on roll call.
Minutes and agenda entries will reflect the ordinance readings and the council’s direction to staff; no ordinance amendments, financing changes, or compensation figures were disclosed on the public record at Tuesday’s meeting.
