Aurora East USD 131 reports 3,000 attend back-to-school fair; introduces two new administrators

Superintendent Dr. Halverson updated the Aurora East USD 131 Board of Education on district outreach and staff preparation for the 2025-26 school year at the Aug. 18 meeting.
Brittany Walker summarized the districts back-to-school fair on Aug. 9, which she said served about 3,000 students and parents at a high school site. Families checked in to receive backpacks and supply kits, visited a resource fair with community partners, and could receive physicals from VNA at the event. The fair also included family activities such as face painting, a petting zoo and pony rides, and participating food trucks provided meals.
Dr. Halverson also recapped the districts three-day all-administrator professional development held Aug. 6-8. More than 100 administrators attended; the sessions covered school and departmental improvement planning, legal best practices, safety and security updates, and team-building activities, including a guest facilitator.
The board was also introduced to two administrators: Jody Eppensteen, returning to the district as assistant principal at the Early Childhood Center after serving as a preschool instructional coach and ECSE teacher since 2007; and Thomas Scoble, named division chair of English and Fine Arts at East Aurora High School, who previously taught theater and English at Lake Zurich High School and holds multiple degrees in theater education and educational leadership.
Dr. Halverson said school begins Wednesday, Aug. 20, and that board members plan to visit buildings to greet students and staff starting at 7:30 a.m.
