Moore honors lifeguard after rescue at Aquatic Center

The Moore City Council on Aug. 18 presented a formal commendation to Kyo Johnson, a lifeguard for the City of Moore, for rescuing a child who appeared lifeless in the Lazy River at the Moore Aquatic Center on Aug. 3.
Mayor Robin Adams read the council's commendation, saying Johnson blew his whistle to alert other lifeguards, entered the water, extracted the child and performed rescue breaths before placing her in a recovery position and checking for a pulse. Other lifeguards assisted, and emergency medical services later transported the child. The child's mother later called to express her appreciation, Adams said.
The commendation text circulated at the meeting credited Johnson’s “swift action” and “quick thinking,” and said the city is proud to employ him as part of the parks department lifeguard team. The council presented the certificate and invited Johnson to the podium to accept it.
The presentation was ceremonial; no council action beyond the public commendation was recorded.
