City reports completion of event-center fencing and decade-long taxiway rehabilitation project

City staff reported notice-of-completion filings for nearly 800 feet of event-center fencing installed by Yukon Fence and for the rehabilitation and relocation of the airport taxiway, the latter funded largely by federal grants and completing a project more than a decade in the making.
City staff informed the council that the Tehachapi Event Center fencing project and the airport taxiway rehabilitation and relocation have reached notice-of-completion status.
The event center project installed just under 800 feet of fencing in front of the rodeo grounds, constructed by Yukon Fence. Staff said the fencing was delivered on time and on budget and was used during July 4 events.
The council also received a notice of completion for the rehabilitation and relocation of the airport taxiway. Staff described the taxiway project as more than a decade in development and reported it was supported by more than $7,000,000 in grant funding with approximately $5,800,000 in construction costs. City staff publicly thanked Airport Manager Ashley Whitmore and Bartali Engineering (John Smith named) for their roles in delivering design and construction.
Presenters framed both items as informational notices of completion; no council action was required on the filings. Council members and the city manager praised the visible improvements and said the projects improved public infrastructure.
The taxiway rehabilitation was characterized as a long-term, FAA-involved project first placed on the city—s capital improvement program in 2009 and approved by the FAA in 2014, with environmental reviews and subsequent construction phases leading to final completion.
