Chickasha council approves internet contract, fireworks sales ordinance and airport grant; approves Chamber golf tournament use

Chickasha Mayor and Council on an evening meeting approved a set of routine and policy items including a new internet contract, an ordinance to allow limited in-city sales of fireworks, acceptance of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant for airport hangars and permission for the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce to hold its annual golf tournament at the city golf course.

The council approved a contract with Dobson Pfeiffer for internet service at an amount not to exceed $1,744 per month to replace the city’s existing AT&T service when that contract expires in September. City staff said the new provider will own the end-to-end network for covered locations, provide a local call center in Oklahoma, and is expected to be more reliable for those facilities the contract covers. City staff said the new contract will not cover the sports complex or the airport because Dobson has not built service out to those locations.

The council approved a pay application to WW Builders Inc. in the amount of $10,081.93 for the Chickasha Police Department canopy project.

Council members voted to adopt Ordinance 2025-8, which amends Chickasha’s fire code and related regulations to permit the limited sale of fireworks within municipal limits while maintaining a prohibition on discharge in city limits. Under the ordinance language discussed at the meeting, sales would be limited to a short period (June 27–July 4 is cited as the model window) and would be restricted to civic, charitable, fraternal, educational or religious organizations and youth sports teams when operating under the authority of Chickasha public schools. The ordinance also restricts funds received from permitted sales to support a Fourth of July community engagement event and related public-safety efforts. Council discussion included concerns about enforcement and whether limiting sales to certain organizations would be exclusive; the ordinance’s sponsors said it was modeled on ordinances used in nearby municipalities and intended to be implemented incrementally.

The council approved Resolution 2025-22R to accept FAA grant AIP-3-40-0018-023-2025 and authorize the mayor to execute documentation upon receipt. City staff described this grant as the second portion of federal reimbursement for a t-hangar project already completed; staff said the hangars are installed, occupied and that there is a waiting list. At the meeting staff reported there are 10 T-style hangars in place and noted a waiting list; during discussion a staff speaker reported a monthly rent figure as stated in the meeting record.

Council also approved a resolution establishing security lighting at the Country Club and North Road intersection. Public works staff described a plan using multiple downward-facing fixtures on a PSO pole to illuminate the intersection while minimizing glare into motorists’ eyes; the work will proceed with PSO coordination.

Finally, the council approved a request from the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce to use the city golf course for the Chamber’s annual golf tournament on Sept. 5, 2025. Chamber representatives told council the tournament would be run as the event has in past years (AM and PM scrambles) and that they would pay an event fee to the city.
