The Perryton ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Brandy Tyree as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, voting 6-0 to accept the administration's recommendation at the board meeting.
The recommender, identified in the meeting as Mr. Brown, told trustees he has worked with Tyree previously and praised her for building teams and improving a previously "toxic and dysfunctional" division at Plainview. "Brandy has one of the best work ethics that I've ever encountered," Mr. Brown said. "She will get down in the trenches with our staff to help them in whatever needs done."
Tyree was recommended to replace Donna Hale, who left the district to become superintendent of Bowie ISD. Mr. Brown said Tyree has experience as a teacher, assistant principal, director of special education and other administrative roles, and emphasized her commitment to instruction and students.
A trustee moved and seconded the board to accept the administration's recommendation. The motion carried 6-0. The meeting record does not specify Tyree's starting date, salary, or contract length.
Board members welcomed Tyree and her family, who were present at the meeting. Mr. Brown and other trustees encouraged colleagues and staff to ask Tyree questions and get to know her as she assumed the role.
