Staff reported three proposals were received and a review committee is evaluating them with a recommendation expected in September.
A county staff member explained the procurement timeline to the board: the county issued the RFP in April, multiple vendor questions required staff responses, and the evaluation committee hopes to recommend an award next month. Commissioners asked for clarity about the “month-to-month” arrangement and the expected timing; staff said the temporary extension was intended only to bridge the gap until a new contract is awarded.
The commission moved and seconded the month-to-month extension and took a vote; the motion passed. County staff said the procurement evaluation would continue and that staff will return with a formal contract recommendation once the review is complete.
The board’s action preserves continuity of inmate medical coverage while staff completes the formal procurement process.
