Planning staff outlines Firewise mapping effort and ADU Accelerator program funding

The Planning Director said the emergency preparedness commission and planning staff are working to map Firewise community boundaries more precisely; staff expects the mapping effort to be complete in 30 to 60 days. The mapping is intended to create clear outlines that homeowners insurers and residents can use; the Planning Director said membership in a Firewise community can reduce homeowners insurance costs by up to about 10 percent.
Assistant Planner Anna Toll summarized the ADU Accelerator program, saying the initiative made funding available to 15 East Bay cities through a state assembly or senate district initiative. Toll said the program provides two parts: approximately $50,000 for each city to develop in‑house, permit‑ready ADU plans and roughly $46,000 for a rebate program that varies by ADU size and whether it will serve low‑income tenants. Toll directed listeners to the city webpage for more information, noting the program had already drawn interest. "The ADU Accelerator program... $50,000 goes towards the production of in house permit ready off the shelf plans... and approximately $46,000 is available as a rebate program," Toll said.
Staff said the permit‑ready plans will be made publicly available on the city website (lovelafayette.org/aduaccelerator) and that interest from residents has been strong. The commission did not take action on these reports; staff asked commissioners to help spread the word and to participate when outreach events are scheduled.
