Franklin County administrator announces Feb. 1 retirement; board praises tenure

Franklin County Administrator Christopher Kebler announced Aug. 19 that he will retire from county service effective Feb. 1. Kebler told the Board of Supervisors he plans to pursue other work after a long local government career and said he considered it an honor to serve his home county.
Board members and staff used the meeting to recognize Kebler’s tenure. County staff earlier in the meeting had presented consecutive Government Finance Officers Association awards for the county’s annual comprehensive financial report and distinguished budget presentation; the county administrator linked those recognitions to long‑term financial stewardship. Several supervisors praised Kebler’s leadership, noting the county’s strong bond ratings (one notch below AAA), low historic tax rate, expanded water and sewer infrastructure and 24/7 emergency medical services coverage.
Kebler said the county is in strong fiscal shape and that he will assist with transition planning during the months before his departure. "It’s been the honor of my career," he said. The board said staff will present next steps for transition planning at a later date.
The announcement came amid other recognitions and routine business. The board asked staff to coordinate next steps for internal and external outreach around a transition and thanked Kebler for his service.
