Salt Lake County Councilmember Suzanne Harrison told the Active Transportation Committee that Mill Creek City and Salt Lake County recently celebrated a ribbon-cutting for a new park, paved trail, pedestrian bridge and boat launch on the Jordan River near 3900 South.
The new trailhead includes a boat launch suitable for kayaking and canoeing, picnic tables, a covered pavilion and a pedestrian bridge that connects Mill Creek to Taylorsville and nearby neighborhoods. Harrison said a paved loop trail at the site provides roughly a 20-minute walk.
Vaulted toilets are planned for installation by the end of the year. “I was especially excited about the boat launch and the availability of that for accessing recreation, but also helping with river cleanups or bird watching,” Harrison said.
Harrison and staff thanked Mill Creek City leadership (Mayor Silva Strini and the city council), Salt Lake County, the Utah Department of Natural Resources and the Jordan River Commission. Harrison said those partners and federal funds provided roughly $2,500,000 for the project.
Committee members and staff echoed praise for the multi-modal access and noted increased use of the Jordan River for recreation and transit connections. WFRC staff asked attendees to nominate projects for future agendas if communities want to highlight ribbon-cutings or similar openings.
No committee action was taken; the item was presented as an information update and celebration of the new facility.
