Board members reported that the district’s back-to-school bash and convocation were well attended and drew positive feedback from staff.
A board speaker said the back-to-school bash drew a large crowd and praised local businesses and other donors who provided food and door prizes. "A lot of people won door prizes. Everybody had a good time," the speaker said.
The board also reported that the following day's convocation featured guest speaker Todd Whitaker; a board speaker said that "from everything I heard, all of our teachers loved him." The board described the Thursday and Friday events as two days that demonstrated support for teachers and staff, including distribution of bonus checks and door-prize giveaways.
In board announcements, members reminded the public that students are free to attend the Lawton Philharmonic concert on Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Lawton High School; the announcement said an accompanying parent’s ticket costs $15.
Board members closed the meeting with routine scheduling notes, including the cancellation of the Aug. 8 meeting because it falls the day after the OSSBA conference.
