Director Hicks, Public Safety Communications Director, said the policy “assigns the points for hours worked, on a voluntary basis for overtime, and we try to make it rewarding for them. Points earned will be valid for 1 year from date that they are earned.” Chief Cole had raised questions about some terminology in the draft; Hicks said the draft had been revised to address those concerns and to remove references to supervisors in favor of naming the director or designee as the decision-maker.
Board members discussed the 12-month rolling window for points expiration and the practical implementation of the tracking sheet. Director Hicks said the deputy director is designated for enforcing mandates and call-offs when the director is unavailable.
