County outlines schedule for bridge and paving projects; contractor assures repairs to thin paving on 700 South

Adams County highway staff updated commissioners on several road and bridge projects and met with representatives from BNB Paving about concerns on a recently completed section of 700 South.
Highway superintendent Nate told the board that the Bridge 180 project will begin next Monday (start date delayed) and is expected to require about a seven-week closure; he said schools and local harvest-season traffic have been notified. Bridge 73 (described as a partial deck‑patching project along Salem Road) had a preconstruction walk-through with the contractor and is scheduled to start in October; that work will use ready‑mix concrete and is expected to require 7–10 days of closure to allow curing.
Representatives from BNB Paving — Jeremy Slater (area manager), Kyle King (project manager) and Greg (division manager) — attended to respond to complaints that a short stretch at the west end of the 700 South project was left with a thinner binder course. Jeremy said the work performed there was the binder course and that contractor practice is to leave the final surface (the top course) to be placed at a later pass so the surface grade can be set properly. He told commissioners, “We fully intend to address and make right” the thin area and that the final 2‑inch top coat will bind the patch and render the earlier thin area inconspicuous once the surface course is applied.
Commissioners and highway staff discussed having county inspection presence on future projects to catch issues earlier; contractor representatives said project managers and superintendents will be on site for surface and repair work. Fleming’s (another contractor) and E&B were mentioned as regular vendors; county staff said spot repairs are underway and that striping is part of the bid and will follow paving.
County staff also reported routine maintenance updates (oil distributor truck returned to service) and a pole-replacement permit by I&M on Winchester Road was approved.
Commissioners thanked the paving contractor for attending and asked for direct communication with county staff on start dates so residents and harvest traffic can be informed.
