During the Aug. 11 Leonardtown Town Council meeting, staff provided the monthly police report, saying officers recorded 90 vehicle stops and 53 crime-prevention contacts in July. Staff also announced that an officer's last day with the town will be Sept. 11.
A councilmember raised a traffic-safety concern about drivers using the far-right turn lane at a local signal to bypass queued traffic and then striking the curb; the commenter said the behavior happened even when a police officer was nearby. The council asked staff to forward the complaint to the town's safety personnel for review and possible enforcement follow-up. "Maybe talk to safety and we'll take that as, kind of a headpoint that we actually look for," the councilmember said.
No formal enforcement action or new traffic-control measures were adopted at the meeting; staff were directed to investigate and report back as appropriate.
