Leonardtown staff work with Waste Management after substitute driver misses Friday routes

Town staff reported service disruptions to residential trash collection after a substitute Waste Management driver unfamiliar with local routes missed multiple pickups on Friday, Aug. 8.
Staff member Jackie said Waste Management agreed to return to complete missed routes after completing the regular schedule, and the town has posted notices on its website, Facebook page and the Hello Leonardtown app asking residents to leave containers at the curb all day so crews can service missed stops. "We started getting calls early this morning...giving him every street that they need to get back on," Jackie said.
Officials said the missed pickups affected alleys and smaller streets served by the rear-load truck. The town asked residents to keep containers at the curb to allow crews to collect missed trash on a later run. Staff also said they will work with Waste Management to better brief substitute drivers on local routes and will produce an informational flyer describing placement rules for the automated (ASL) truck and recycling guidance; the flyer is expected in the coming weeks.
Councilmembers and residents asked questions during the meeting about specific streets that had been missed, and staff said they had been in direct contact with Waste Management's local manager, Chris Christian, to coordinate follow-up service. No formal vote or penalty for the contractor was recorded in the meeting minutes.
