Leonardtown Town Council members voted on three routine items during their Aug. 11 meeting: adoption of the July minutes, approval of a letter of support for a parks grant to fund a splash pad at Wick Park, and renewal of the town's sludge-hauling contract.
The council unanimously approved the July minutes after a motion and second. The council then approved a letter of support for a Community Parks and Playgrounds grant application to install a splash pad at Wick Park; the application was described as requesting $300,000 in grant funds with $265,000 in local county matching funds. Councilors moved and seconded the motion, and the motion passed without recorded opposition.
On the utilities side, the council voted to renew the sludge-hauling contract with Senegro for one year, applying an annual CPI increase of 2.35% (based on the May 2024 CPI). Staff noted the town had used an emergency permit to haul sludge to a different treatment plant while repairs and expansion work continued at the town lagoon. The motion to renew the Senegro contract passed on a voice vote.
