District staff outline instructional priorities, test changes and early test results

Staff said the district held extensive professional development rooted in classroom strategies and reading and math instruction; they described an early goal of raising ACT performance into the low 20s. Presenters said the state’s decision to move some assessment content or administration from the ACT to the SAT was announced in June, and a pending protest/dispute had slowed implementation details. Staff told the board they would receive more consolidated school-level results in coming weeks and that universal screening for K–12 students had begun or would begin soon.
Board members asked about differences between the ACT and SAT, implications for college admissions and for the district’s incentive plans that are geared toward ACT performance. Staff said the change would be significant for how they prepare students and track performance and that the state planned to provide training once any dispute was resolved.
No formal action was taken. Staff said they would return with more data as additional test-designations and school-level results became available.
