Council delegates court-administrator appointment authority to city manager; measure passes 7–3

Aurora City Council on Aug. 25 approved Ordinance 2025-85, delegating to the city manager the authority to appoint and remove the municipal court administrator. The ordinance passed with seven votes in favor and three against.
Council member Gardner moved the item; the motion was seconded by Council member Coombs. During roll call, Council member Jurinski recorded a “no”; later the clerk recorded the three no votes as Council member Jurinski, Council member Casaw and Mayor Pro Tem Sundberg. Council member Hancock voted yes. The clerk announced the motion passed with seven yes votes and three no votes.
Staff framed the measure as an administrative delegation. No public comment was recorded on the item. The council did not add other amendments during the discussion.
The ordinance transfers the appointment and removal authority for the court administrator from council to the city manager; the final ordinance language will be subject to typical ordinance-finalization procedures and any technical edits before it takes effect.
