The Sullivan County Legislature voted to authorize county staff to execute permitting documents necessary to finalize federal and state environmental reviews for Calicoon Riverside Park and to move toward bidding the project for construction.
County staff told legislators both federal and state environmental reviews have been completed. Staff described the federal process as the National Environmental Policy Act review (NEPA) and the state process as the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Staff said the county had not previously authorized the county manager (Josh) to sign the final permitting documents and that the authorization would allow the submission of environmental and financial reviews to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), identified as a funding source.
After receiving the necessary signatures and completing grant disbursement agreements, staff said they hope to bid the project for construction. At the meeting a legislator quipped that they hoped to see construction within their lifetime; staff said the project is moving forward now that permits can be finalized.
The motion to authorize execution of permitting documents was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
