The Planning Commission voted on Aug. 20 to recommend that City Council approve a staff proposal to shift a zone of red curb at 2470 South Ola Vista to the opposite side of the driveway to improve visibility for a single property owner.
Staff said the change is a swap rather than a net loss of parking: moving red curb three spaces on the west side of a driveway and creating four red‑curbed spaces on the east side results in one additional usable parking stall for the immediate block. City engineers described the site as a curving collector street with a bike lane used by many riders and noted the driveway owner has limited backing distance, creating sight‑line concerns when cars park adjacent to the approach.
Commissioners who inspected the site during the day generally agreed the new layout improves the resident’s sight lines while preserving on‑street parking. No members of the public submitted comments on the item. Planning staff recommended the Commission find the item exempt from CEQA and forward a recommendation of approval to council for final codification of the red curb.
On the motion to recommend approval to City Council, the commission voted in favor with one commissioner recorded in opposition. The recommendation will go to the City Council for final action.
