Two public presenters asked the council to take follow-up actions at the Aug. 12 meeting.
Kevin Moore, a volunteer trail advocate, asked the council to send a letter to County Supervisors Otto Lee and Susan Ellenberg asking them to consider forming a Calabazas Creek Trail committee (similar to a past Santa Mosquito/Saratoga Creek committee). Moore said he had met city staff and county staff and asked the council to refer the request to staff so stakeholders could pursue fundraising and partnerships for trail planning. The council made a referral to staff for follow-up.
Wanda (no last name given), speaking about senior services, asked councilmembers to review the recording of a recent senior advisory commission meeting and to consider additional supports after the commission reported a suicide rate of over 16% among older adults in the community. Wanda urged more attention to mental health, access and monthly engagement between council members and the senior center. Mayor and councilmembers acknowledged the concern and said staff would watch and follow up.
City staff recorded the public presentations in the meeting record; the council directed staff to follow up on the trail committee referral and noted the request regarding senior outreach for staff consideration.
