Resident urges city to trim vegetation at 1150 West intersection after near collision

At the Riverdale Redevelopment Agency meeting following the council session, resident Sterling Bennion asked the city to address overgrown vegetation at the intersection of 1150 West and South Weber Drive that, he said, has created recurring visibility problems and led to at least one serious accident in the past.
"There's a lot of bush and trees in the way... the car pulled out in front of me. You can't see them," Bennion said, describing the location where drivers on South Weber Drive must look toward 1150 West while pulling into traffic. He said he has lived in Riverdale for almost 40 years and asked the city to trim the foliage.
City staff indicated they would inspect the location, noting previous questions about right‑of‑way boundaries between private property and city property. Mayor (on the record) asked staff to have personnel visit the site and follow up; staff said they would get maintenance and appropriate staff—including a roads maintenance staffer already scheduled in the area—to review and address sightline trimming if it falls within city responsibility.
The resident also expressed concern about roundabouts and driver behavior; staff clarified that UDOT and other agencies control certain road changes and that the city does not control all decisions related to UDOT projects. City staff committed to investigate the vegetation and return with a clarification of responsibility and any planned work.
