Police report shows calls for service trending up; council told staffing may need review

City police staff told the Wild Tribe City Council that call-for-service volumes for July are rising after a low point in 2023 but remain below a 2020 high.
During the Aug. 6 meeting presentation, staff displayed monthly and annual call trends and said July’s call volume appeared to be increasing toward historical highs. The presenter cautioned that the department does not have firm data explaining a 2023 dip and that the figures are not cause for immediate alarm. “We don't we don't have enough data to tell us why,” the presenter said, noting that the numbers remain modest by historical standards.
Staff told the council that when call volume increases with population growth, the department may eventually need to consider adding another officer to handle workload. The department’s July report identified one major accident the prior month and the remainder of calls as typical police work: welfare checks, lockouts, property damage, assaults and other routine responses.
The presentation did not include a specific staffing request or a formal vote; staff characterized the information as background for future planning. Council members thanked the presenter and noted local advantages in access to some medical services cited during other agenda items.
