Dare County staff: show driver’s license and reentry permit at checkpoints; staged reentry for priority 3 businesses

Dare County Emergency Management staff told a resident that a staged reentry will let priority 3 noncritical businesses return to work “day after tomorrow” and that law enforcement checkpoints will require drivers to show a driver’s license and a reentry permit.

The guidance clarifies how people and businesses should approach checkpoints and what documentation to have on hand while some services remain down and curfews continue in the hardest-hit areas.

Dare County Emergency Management staff said, “They're using a staged reentry process. We're a priority 3 noncritical business. They said things will be safe for us to get back to work day after tomorrow. Now some services are still down, and there's a curfew in place in the areas hardest hit.”

On checkpoint procedures, the staff member advised: “The checkpoint will be staffed by law enforcement. All you will need to do is show your driver's license and the reentry permit that I gave you. Put the reentry permit in the window and your license out to show the office.”

During the exchange the resident responded, “Thanks. It's good to hear that Dare County Emergency Management is allowing us to get back to work,” and later reported, “Just got past the checkpoint. That was easy. I'm glad I was prepared.”
