Trail Mix committee names Emily Lester active-transportation representative

The Grand County Trail Mix Committee voted to appoint Emily Lester as its active-transportation representative after members discussed her background in community-level active transportation work.

Lester, who introduced herself to the committee as “I’m Emily Intell. I’m the Bureau of Land Management paleontologist,” described five years of experience working with bicycle and pedestrian groups in Columbia, Missouri, and participation in similar organizations while living in Denver. She told the committee she regularly uses a bicycle and walks for local travel and had contributed to active-transportation efforts in previous communities.

Committee members moved and seconded a nomination to make Lester the Trail Mix active-transportation rep, and members present raised their hands in favor. The motion carried without recorded opposition.

During discussion, members emphasized safety and intersection improvements as immediate priorities for the new rep. Lester said she has been reviewing the county’s active-transportation survey and comment map and encouraged community input.

The committee did not attach an implementation timeline to the appointment but asked Lester to help represent active-transportation concerns during the county and city master-plan updates and community outreach.
