Marysville council declines an immediate truck-route ordinance, approves stop sign resolution and advances stormwater study RFP

Marysville City Council on Aug. 11 debated a proposed ordinance to designate Sixth Street as a city truck route and set a gross-weight cap, approved a resolution to install stop signs at Sixth and Calhoun, authorized staff to solicit proposals for a stormwater study and discussed renegotiating a long-standing lease for two water wells.

Councilors and staff spent the longest portion of the meeting on a draft ordinance that would set a maximum gross vehicle weight for city streets and explicitly designate Sixth Street as a truck corridor. The draft used 30,000 pounds as an example limit. Police leadership and business representatives told council that 30,000 pounds likely understates the weights of some local deliveries and that enforceability and state preemption create practical problems.
