Alice ISD superintendent reports first-day enrollment of 4,073 and describes phone-policy implementation

Dr. Anicia Trevino, superintendent of Alice Independent School District, told the board at its Aug. 11 regular meeting that the district’s first-day enrollment was 4,073 students, 57 fewer than the district reported the prior year on the first day.
Treviño briefed trustees on operational priorities for the 2025–26 school year, naming student academics, safety and attendance among the district’s top goals. She said district leadership had begun implementing a cell-phone policy referenced in the meeting as House Bill 1481 and thanked middle- and high-school administrators for their work standing up the policy on day one.
According to Treviño’s remarks, high school staff collected about 18 phones during lunch on the first day; elementary campuses reported no issues. Treviño said staff reviewed the policy with teachers and students and worked to ensure compliance.
She also described district preparation activities over July and early August including leadership academy sessions focused on data review and writing instruction, new teacher orientation for 39 new teachers, and district-wide professional development sessions that included campus safety training and sessions on higher-order thinking and differentiation.
Treviño closed her report by reiterating district goals around leadership, character, academics and service for the coming year.
