CCSD touts back‑to‑school fairs, ribbon cuttings and reengagement walks ahead of Aug. 11 school start

Superintendent Ebert and district staff briefed trustees on Aug. 6 about the district's final back‑to‑school events and preparations ahead of the Aug. 11 first day of classes.
"We've been coordinating with Metro as well and our other partners," Ebert said, thanking staff and partners and noting operational preparations across facilities, transportation and food service. She told trustees she asked facilities leadership to "promise me that 100% of the air conditioning will be running the first day of school," and staff described targeted investments to address cooling systems at priority schools.
Staff reported four Cox‑sponsored drive‑through/back‑to‑school fairs this summer, supply distributions (the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation also donated backpacks), a media rodeo for reporters and a large administrators' kickoff. The district said it has fewer vacancies entering this school year than in recent years and noted nine new or modernized campuses that will receive ribbon cuttings.
As part of student outreach, staff proposed a revised "Bright Futures" reengagement walk for the week of Aug. 26–28 in each region. Volunteers paired with CCSD employees will precall families and perform targeted outreach at addresses of students who were enrolled last year but have not yet reenrolled. Staff said they will bring tablet devices to register students on site where possible and will provide school supplies and a warm reentry plan with school personnel.
Ending: Trustees praised the range of outreach and operational work; staff will continue weekend and early‑week activities and return to trustees with any notable operational issues. No board action was required.
