Valley County approves fence at planned community-center daycare; Ignite Idaho to fund installation

Valley County commissioners approved on Aug. 6 the installation of a fence on county-owned property adjacent to the community center to allow a planned Ignite Idaho daycare to operate outdoor play space.
Commissioner Maupin told the board Ignite Idaho is moving forward to create a daycare at the community center in Cascade because two other local daycares are closing at the end of the month. Staff said the operator aims to open by Sept. 1 and that fencing the vacant lot north of the building is a condition to begin outdoor activities. The operator will pay for the fence; the county does not yet have a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) but staff said the MOU will be completed afterward.
“I guess that there are some... offenders that live in the area, and so it's a requirement that she have an enclosed fence for the outdoor area,” Commissioner Maupin said, describing a safety requirement the operator provided to the county.
Commissioner Maupin moved to approve the fence; the motion received a second and the board voted to approve the request. No dollar amounts for the fence or MOU terms were provided in the public meeting record.
The fence approval allows the operator to proceed with installation on county-owned land subject to completion of an MOU. Commissioners did not describe further conditions or a timetable for the MOU in the meeting.
