Scott Bracken, adviser to the Cottonwood Heights Youth City Council, told the City Council on Tuesday that youth volunteers contributed 174 hours of service during this year’s Butlerville Days festival.
"A recurring theme is it's organized. It feels safe," Bracken said, describing public feedback he heard while staffing the information booth.
Why it matters: The youth council’s volunteer work supports city events and public-safety operations while offering civic experience to young residents.
Activities and acknowledgments: Bracken said youth helped with event setup and cleanup, staffed the information booth, worked in food tents and participated in the parade. He thanked city staff, volunteer organizers and the Unified Fire Authority and police for their on-site presence; he specifically credited Anna Etchells (festival organizer) and named Ryan Earhart as this year's youth service officer who coordinated times and assignments.
Upcoming youth events Bracken listed include Bark in the Park in September, the Monster Mash in October and the Thanksgiving 5K on Thanksgiving morning. Bracken said the youth council hopes to schedule another dinner with the mayor soon and encouraged council members to recognize the youth’s volunteer hours.
Council response: Council members and the mayor thanked Bracken and the youth council for their contributions and remarked that the event tends to be notably clean and well organized compared with other municipal celebrations.
No formal council action was required or taken regarding the youth council report.
