Commission told pool-access report will return in October with best-practice research

The commission was briefed Aug. 5 on a city council directive for staff to prepare a report on providing access to a swimming pool for Hermosa Beach residents.
Lisa, the community resources director, said staff plans to return as early as October with a report compiling best-practice research from surrounding cities that operate pools. The report, she said, will include data on pool locations and sizes, indoor support facilities, staffing levels, original construction costs and the year of construction, annual maintenance costs and annual revenue where available.
The purpose of the research, Lisa said, is to give the commission the information needed to recommend whether staff should pursue joint-use agreements with neighboring cities (as recommended in the city’s parks master plan) or to explore building a pool within Hermosa Beach, which would require aquatics expertise. Lisa added that the community advocacy group supporting a local pool would be invited to present when the item returns.
Commissioners asked procedural and timing questions; Lisa confirmed the item will include comparative financial and operational details to support a future recommendation to city council but did not provide dates, cost estimates, or a finalized scope beyond the research topics to be included.
No formal action was taken at the Aug. 5 meeting; the agenda item is planned for a future commission meeting in October.
