Hermosa Beach commission hears updates on fall events, Clark Building opening and Greenbelt trail dedication

Community resources director Lisa (last name not specified) said the city hosted the International Surf Festival the prior weekend and noted upcoming events including a triathlon on Aug. 10, California Beach Volleyball Association tournaments Aug. 30–31, and beach tennis tournaments Aug. 15–17. She said the MindTravel “live headphone silent piano” concert received Coastal Commission approval and will hold its first event in Hermosa on Aug. 19.
Lisa said the city will hold a dedication for the Greenbelt Accessible Trail Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Pierre Avenue and Valley Drive. She added the Clark Building has its first reservation on Aug. 20 and staff plans an open house before that date. The dedication ceremony for the Casey Rohrer accessible playground is set for November so temporary fencing from a South Park irrigation slope project can be removed before the celebration.
On seasonal programming, Lisa said the department’s annual Catalina Island trip on Aug. 17 is sold out and two buses are scheduled; a wait list is available at hermosabeach.gov/recreation. She also said the fall/winter recreation brochure became available and registration opened the day before the meeting.
Lisa said the staff expects to announce the Hermosa Beach concert series lineup this week or early next week; concerts will return on the two Sundays after Labor Day with an expected opening-act schedule similar to last year. She reminded commissioners that ticket details and show times are on hermosabeach.gov/theater.
Commissioners asked follow-ups about ticket availability for the MindTravel event; Lisa said ticket sales opened only after the Coastal Commission approval, and that the event is a suggested-donation model with headphones available at the booth for on-site attendees. Commissioners also asked about reporting on revenues from new facility rentals and filming; Lisa said the department will explore producing a general department revenue report once new recreation and finance software is implemented and the city issues a request for proposals for recreation software.
The commission did not receive any public-speaker cards for this meeting and moved on to other agenda items.
