Newark outlines multiple housing projects, from senior affordable units to mixed-use developments

He said the FMC Willow and Grand Park project, approved by the city council, will sit at the northwest corner of Willow Street and Enterprise and is planned to include 279 townhouse units, 3,600 square feet of retail, a private community building, a future transit-station parcel, and a five-acre grand park with a dog park, amphitheater and multiuse sports field. Hannon said that project will include 90 affordable units plus one manager unit in a six-story building; construction is expected to start next year with a goal of completion by 2028.
Other projects cited: - Paschke Homes: 88 condo units approved last year, including 13 units priced for very low and low-income households, with target prices between $250,000 and $350,000. Construction plans are under review and the developer expects to begin next year. - Thornton Avenue Apartments: 59 mixed one-, two- and three-bedroom affordable units, with early project openings expected in 2028. - Maribel by Robeson Homes (Cedar Boulevard): 118 single-family and two-unit attached townhouses; construction underway with model homes available by October. - Cedar Homes by Taylor Morrison: 76 three-story attached townhouses under construction, with models available later this year. - Thornton assisted-living facility: a four-story, 97-bed building on Thornton Avenue expected to be completed by August 2026.
Hannon said the city is planning programs to reduce tenant evictions, support pathways to home ownership for income-qualified households and establish senior housing, but he did not provide ordinance text or funding specifics for those programs during the address.
