Department leaders summarized follow‑up from the multi‑year Public Consulting Group (PCG) review the legislature commissioned, describing work completed and the department’s plan to fold remaining items into its strategic plan.
Staff recounted the PCG engagement (originating in 2019), the large set of findings and the department’s tracker used to monitor progress. They said many action items from PCG have been completed; remaining items were listed in a recent PCG update and department staff are incorporating open items into the department strategic plan and an operational tracker. Staff described the tracker as useful for assigning leads, timelines and committees to complete outstanding tasks.
Department leaders told the board they will prepare a consolidated, board‑ready version of the completed and ongoing work so the legislature and new legislators can see what the department has accomplished. Board members asked staff to circulate that consolidated plan before the next legislative session and to proactively provide it to incoming legislators.
Staff also described the department’s “Journey to the Top 30” initiative and the Education Initiative and Strategy Council — a cross‑office group that meets monthly to coordinate priorities (reading, math, CCR, principal leadership and school improvement). Board members asked for more detail on how special education work and other targeted supports fit within the consolidated strategic plan; staff said they would provide the documentation requested and that some items already completed were reflected in recent federal reviews that showed reduced findings for the department.
No formal action was taken; staff committed to produce and circulate a consolidated plan document to the board and to legislative contacts prior to the next session.
