Louisa Krug, a community development professional at East Side Rise and a former member of the planning commission, was introduced Monday as the nominee to the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission for the District 9 seat, a committee member said. The committee said it will vote on the appointment on Jan. 30.
Krug told the committee she has worked previously in the city planning office and at the Tulsa Global District. “I currently work at East Side Rise. We're a community development corporation in East Tulsa focused on creating prosperous neighborhoods, holistic community development, economic development,” Krug said, describing her background in planning and public health.
Krug said her public-health training informs her interest in land use and long-term resident outcomes. “My background's in public health. And so my interest is really in how the way we develop our cities can have lasting impacts on health outcomes and just the long term outcomes of our residents,” she said.
Committee members thanked Krug for her willingness to serve and noted her prior planning commission experience and service in the planning office. A committee member told Krug she can attend the Jan. 30 council meeting if she wishes but that attendance is not required for the confirmation vote.
No formal vote was taken at Monday’s Public Works Committee meeting; committee members said the appointment will be on the council agenda for the Jan. 30 vote.
